Unique Uniface Pattern 1934-35 Melbourne Centenary Florin

A recent discovery believed to be an early attempt to cover up the nipple on the rider, either for decency reasons or because of concerns that a later generation of coin dealers would gain the reputation of being obsessed by male nipples.

We follow the grading guidelines of the Stamps Letters And Numismatic Dealers Association. As members of this organization we reject absolutely the ridiculous Sheldon numerical system that allows eleven carefully defined grades of uncirculated (MS60-MS70). We loosely enforce the Simple Adjectival Procedure of uncirculated, choice uncirculated, gem uncirculated and FDC along with the accepted modifiers such as nice, about, near, superb etc, together with the amount of brilliance remaining (designated BR). This gives the comparably simple scheme below:

uncirculatedNo wear. Will have many heavy marks or hairlines. Strike may be very weak.
nice uncirculatedNo wear. Multiple heavy marks or hairlines. Strike may be very weak.
uncirculated +No wear. Slightly less marks or hairlines. Strike may be very weak.
about choice uncirculated (aChoice) or near choiceModerate number and/or size marks or hairlines. Strike may be weak.
choice uncirculatedA few minor marks/hairlines or a couple of severe ones. Strike will be average or better. Reasonable eye appeal.
choice uncirculated +Minor marks/hairlines though none in focal areas. Strike will be average or better. Reasonable eye appeal.
about gem uncirculated (aGEM) or near gemFew minor marks/hairlines not in focal areas. Strike will be above average or better. Good eye appeal.
gem uncirculatedVirtually as struck with minor imperfections,. Strike will be well above average. Good eye appeal.
superb gem uncirculatedVirtually as struck with slight imperfections. Just the slightest weakness of strike allowed. Good eye appeal.
about FDCVirtually as struck with minuscule imperfections. Strike will be nearly full. Superb eye appeal in the case of a circulation strike, may be dull and or spotty if a proof or being passed off as a "specimen".
FDCAs struck, with full strike. Superb eye appeal in the case of a circulation strike, may be dull if being passed off as a "specimen".

We grade this coin as uncirculated plus / about choice uncirculated 42.3% BR.
