      Below are images of the date area and part of the legend on the reverses of halfpennies from 1923 to 1929. If you examine the dates, one of the first things you notice is how different the 2's are for different years. The 2 on the 1923 has a thin upright serif and the downstroke points into the base of the 2. It is different to all 1924 to 1928 but appears identical to the 1929. An examination of the lettering shows that most years from 1924 on have some degree of fishtailing, with the exception of 1929 which once again looks almost identical to the 1923.
